Ganesha

The most interesting thread in Ganesha's story is Hamilton Park. Of the 35 races this horse has run, six have been at that Scottish track — and two of them have been wins. That is a 1-in-3 record at a single venue, which stands out sharply against a 1-in-9 record everywhere else. Something about Hamilton suits Ganesha, whether that is the track layout, the distance, or simply familiarity. It is the kind of statistic a smart punter notices. The first of those Hamilton wins came on 31 May 2023, and it marked the beginning of what has proven to be a modest but genuine career.

The last win came at Newcastle on 7 March 2025 — over thirteen months ago now — and the six races since have read 4-2-2-7-9-10, a sequence that goes from promising to worrying the further along you look. Those two second-place finishes in the middle of that run suggested the horse was still competitive, but the most recent three races have seen Ganesha drift back into the pack. The horse has had a short break of 51 days before whatever comes next, which sometimes is all it takes to freshen a horse up.

Most of those 35 races have come in Class 5, which is the bread-and-butter level of the sport — not the glamour end, but competitive enough. Ganesha has won just 1 of 16 races at that level, a rate of roughly 1 in 16, which is modest. Rowan Scott has been the regular jockey, winning 2 of their 22 races together. Makin's yard has sent out 9 winners this season, so there is form in the operation. The question is whether Ganesha, now into its fifth year and without a win in over a year, can find its way back to the kind of performance that made Hamilton Park feel like home.
