Galactic Jack

The problem is that was nearly three years ago. The last win of any kind came at Salisbury in June 2023 — 34 months back — and the recent form makes for uncomfortable reading. In the last six races, Galactic Jack has finished no better than fourth, with two runs abandoned or missing entirely. The most recent run was 15 days ago, so this is very much an active campaign, but there is clearly work to do to recapture whatever spark produced those earlier wins.

One thing worth watching is the distance. When Galactic Jack races between a mile and one furlong and a mile and two furlongs, the record sharpens noticeably: one win from three races at those trips, which is 33% — winning roughly 1 in 3. That is a very different horse from the one that scrapes 1 from 7 across its regular Class 2 assignments overall. Get the trip right and the picture changes.

The yard behind this horse is Gary and Josh Moore, a father-and-son training operation based in Lower Beeding in West Sussex, not far from Goodwood itself. They have sent out 94 winners this season, which marks them out as a genuinely productive operation — not a small yard hoping for the occasional result, but a team that knows how to get horses ready to win. The question now is whether they can find the right conditions to coax one more big day out of Galactic Jack, a horse that has already shown it belongs at the top table, even if it has been a while since it sat there.
