Flowstate

Over his career, Flowstate has won six races from 32 attempts, a win rate of roughly one in every five races. He has also picked up 14 places, making him a consistent finisher without being a star. The sweet spot for this horse is distances between seven furlongs and a mile — he has won four of his 11 races at those lengths, winning more than one in every three times he runs at that distance. In shorter or longer races, his record deteriorates noticeably, which tells you something important about his physiology and the kind of race he is built for.

Most of his wins have come in Class 5 races, the lower rungs of competitive racing, where he has won four from 16 attempts. Jockey Mark Winn has been his most effective partner, winning three of eight races together — a partnership win rate of 38%, well above Flowstate's overall average. He is trained by David O'Meara at Upper Helmsley in North Yorkshire, a yard that has sent out 101 winners this season and knows how to get the best from its inmates. Recent form has been patchy: he was placed sixth just a day ago, with a fifth two races back and a fourth before that. A win at that distance and track in March proved he could still deliver at his level, but seven months without a victory suggests he may be between runs rather than regaining form.
