The headline result on his CV is a Class 2 win at Ayr in September 2024 — one of the top-tier races in British racing — which remains his most recent victory, now some 21 months ago. Before that, he had broken his duck at Redcar in June of the same summer, suggesting that 2024 was very much his year. Easterby, who has sent out a remarkable 126 winners this season alone from his North Yorkshire base, clearly saw the potential early: back in April 2024 he described Financer as a horse he liked, one built for middle-distance racing. That assessment proved accurate. The sweet spot for this horse is between a mile and three furlongs and a mile and four — at those distances he has won 3 of his 16 races, a rate of roughly 1 in every 5, which is genuinely strong.

The ground matters too. On normal conditions Financer has won 2 of 8 races — again, 1 in every 4 — a noticeably better return than his overall career rate of 3 wins from 25 races, which works out at roughly 1 in every 8. He is clearly a horse with preferences, and when those preferences are met, he delivers.

The elephant in the room is that he has not won in his last six races, with recent finishing positions of 4th, 10th, 4th, 18th, 5th, and 5th. The 10th and 18th suggest the odd bad day, while the cluster of fourths and fifths paints the picture of a horse knocking on the door without quite getting through it. His regular partner David Allan has ridden him 11 times for just the one win together — 1 in 11 — which is a modest return, though it reflects the horse's overall level rather than any single failing. At his typical Class 4 level he has won only 1 from 9 races, which underlines that even against everyday company, wins do not come easily for Financer. Still, he keeps showing up.
