Final Night

Kempton Park is where Final Night comes alive. Ten visits to that track have produced four wins — that is winning 4 from 10, or 40% of the time, which in racing terms is extraordinary. Most horses go through entire careers without dominating a single venue like that. Add in nine place finishes across its 22 races and you begin to understand that this is a horse which is almost always in the conversation, even when it does not win. Its first career win came at Kempton in October 2025, and its most recent came at the same track in March 2026 — four months ago now, but the horse raced just yesterday and remains very much in active campaigning.

The wet weather angle is just as telling. On soft or muddy ground, Final Night has won 4 of its 11 races — that is 36%, or more than 1 in every 3 starts. When the ground is soft and the track is Kempton, you are essentially looking at a horse in its ideal conditions. Trainer John Butler, who operates out of Newmarket in Suffolk, has had a productive season with 39 winners sent out from his yard, and he clearly understands what brings the best out of this horse.

The one slight caveat is that Final Night typically competes at Class 5, which is towards the lower end of the racing ladder. At that level, winning 1 from 11 races — roughly 1 in every 11 — suggests the competition is often too strong even in its comfort zone. Its recent form reads 10-6-3-2-6-1 going back six races, meaning it won most recently but has had some disappointing outings in between. This is a horse of very specific strengths: point it at Kempton on a wet day, and it will make life difficult for whoever lines up against it. Ask it to do something different, and the magic tends to disappear.
