Her two wins arrived in quick succession earlier this year — first at Southwell in January, then at Lingfield Park in February — which suggested she was hitting a purple patch. Since then, though, she hasn't been able to add to that tally, going six races without a win with a recent run of seventh, seventh, third, fifth, fifth, seventh. The third place in that sequence shows there's still ability there, but the pair of sevenths on either side of it are a reminder that she can be hard to predict.

One consistent pattern worth noting is her record on normal ground conditions, where she has won 2 of her 11 races on a standard surface — that's roughly 1 in every 5 races, which is a meaningfully better return than her overall average. If the conditions are right, she's a different proposition.

She's most often partnered by Kieran O'Neill, who has ridden her in nine of her races for one win together. That's not a dominating partnership on paper, but O'Neill clearly knows the horse well at this point, and familiarity counts for something. She's trained by Rod Millman, whose yard in Kentisbeare, Devon, has been in fine form this season with 42 winners sent out — so the operation around her is clearly functioning well, even if Filly Foden herself has been waiting for things to click again. She typically races at Class 6, the entry level of British racing, which is exactly where you'd expect a horse of her profile to be finding her feet. She raced just yesterday, so she's right in the thick of an active campaign.
