Filanderer

What makes Filanderer's record genuinely interesting is the range of it. He started winning on New Year's Eve 2021 at Warwick, and his most recent win came on 16 January 2026 at Market Rasen — a Class 2 race, which is one of the top levels of competition in Britain. That is not a small thing. Most horses at this level spend their lives in Class 5 races, where the competition is considerably less fierce. Filanderer has done most of his winning there too — 3 wins from 9 races at that level, a rate of 1 in every 3 — but the fact that he stepped up and won at Class 2 suggests there is more to him than the bread-and-butter stuff.

He also has a track he clearly loves. At Ffos Las, the Welsh course on the edge of Carmarthen Bay, Filanderer has won 2 of his 4 races — that's half of every visit turning into a win, which is the kind of record that would make a trainer's eyes light up when the entries come out.

The partnership with jockey Jonathan Burke is another thread worth pulling. In 10 races together, Burke has ridden Filanderer to 4 of his 6 career wins — 4 from 10 is a win rate of 40%, which is exceptional by any standard. When these two line up together, they win nearly as often as they don't.

Filanderer is trained by Hughie Morrison at East Ilsley in Berkshire, a yard that has already sent out 20 winners this season — a strong, consistent operation. His recent form of two wins from his last six races shows a horse still very much in form at 10 years old, which itself is worth noting. Racing at this age and winning at Class 2 just three months ago, Filanderer is clearly not done yet.
