Ferrous

The spring of 2025 told a compelling story. Ferrous won at Lingfield in February, then Southwell in April, then Newcastle in May — three wins at three different tracks in the space of ten weeks, all at Class 2 level, all on all-weather surfaces. That kind of consistency is not easy to achieve. Horses that win at this level once are doing well; winning three times in a single season at the same tier suggests a horse that had found its best form and knew exactly what it was doing.

The most striking number in Ferrous's record is what happens on normal ground: 4 wins from 9 races, a 44% win rate. To put that another way, nearly half the time Ferrous runs on a standard surface, it wins. That is extraordinary. When conditions shift toward wet or muddy ground, or fast and dry, those numbers drop sharply — so the ground beneath its feet clearly matters enormously to how this horse performs.

Connor Beasley has ridden Ferrous six times and won once together, roughly 1 in every 6 rides. That is a modest return, though Beasley's most recent outing produced that Newcastle Class 2 win in May 2025, which counts for a great deal. Channon's yard has been in excellent form this season, sending out 46 winners, so Ferrous is part of a genuinely productive operation.

The caveat worth noting is that Ferrous has not won in its last six races since that Newcastle victory. The recent form figures — a second, two sixths, a non-finish, a fourth, and another sixth — suggest the purple patch has cooled. But a horse with 7 wins and 15 places from 27 races, with a particular fondness for normal ground and a proven ability to win at the top end of the sport, is never far from adding to its tally. When the conditions are right, Ferrous has shown it can be very hard to beat.
