Evoluir

Both wins have come on all-weather tracks — first at Southwell in October 2024, then at Wolverhampton in February 2025. That Wolverhampton win is now 16 months old, and the last 6 races have produced nothing better than a sixth place, with recent finishes reading 11-6-10-10-7-7. That is a horse that is currently finding things difficult, to put it kindly.

Evoluir operates almost exclusively at Class 6, the lowest tier of British racing, which is where horses at this level spend most of their working lives. Winning 2 from 30 races at that level — around 1 in every 15 — is modest even by that standard. The most interesting stat is on normal ground conditions, where the record improves to 2 wins from 23 races, roughly 1 in every 11. It is not dramatic, but it suggests Evoluir is at least more comfortable when the ground is neither too wet nor too dry.

The horse is trained by Micky Hammond at Middleham in North Yorkshire, a yard that has been busy and productive this season with 25 winners. Jockey Aiden Brookes has ridden Evoluir more than anyone else — 20 times together — and has won once, which amounts to a 5% win rate, or 1 in every 20 rides. That is a long relationship built more on familiarity than fireworks. What keeps a team sending this horse out so regularly is probably the simplest thing in racing: Evoluir showed up yesterday, fit and ready to race. Sometimes that consistency is worth something in itself.
