Enduring Story

Jockey James Sullivan has been along for most of the journey, partnering Enduring Story in six of those eight races without managing to convert a single one into a win. That kind of continuity between horse and rider usually builds into something — the pair develop a rhythm, the jockey learns exactly what makes the horse tick — but so far the results haven't reflected that familiarity.

What keeps this interesting is the yard behind it. Trainer Ruth Carr, operating out of Stillington in North Yorkshire, has sent out 56 winners already this season — that is a genuinely productive training operation, and Carr clearly knows how to get a horse to perform. The fact that Enduring Story hasn't fired yet doesn't reflect on the quality of the team around it. Sometimes a young horse simply takes time to find its confidence, its best trip, or the right conditions. Carr will have seen plenty of slow burners turn the corner, and at three years old, Enduring Story has time on its side. With a race just yesterday, it is very much a horse in active campaigning — the next chapter is still being written.
