When the right rider is in the saddle, this horse clearly goes up a gear.

Distance is another piece of the puzzle. Dog Fox has won 2 of his 5 races at a mile and three to four furlongs — that is 40%, and it is a striking number. To put it plainly: nearly half the time he races over his preferred distance, he wins. That is not a coincidence, that is a pattern the team at Oldcastle will be very aware of.

His most recent win came at Uttoxeter on 16 July 2025, which is now 10 months ago, and his recent form shows a mixed picture — a win, a second, and a third tucked in among some quieter efforts. But crucially, he raced just one day ago, so whatever happened last time out is fresh and very much part of the current story. The fact he is still being kept busy at six years old, competing regularly at Class 4 level — solid, competitive racing without being the very top tier — suggests the yard still believes there is more to come.

Dog Fox will not be winning a headline race at Ascot any time soon, but that is not really the point. This is a horse that wins races when the conditions suit him, rewards patience, and clearly thrives in the right hands over the right distance. He started winning at Great Yarmouth back in April 2023, and he is still adding to that tally now. For a horse at this level, consistency over time is everything — and Dog Fox keeps showing up.
