On dry, fast ground, Diomed Duke wins 2 from 8 races — that's 25%, or one in every four — which is a genuinely strong return and suggests the horse is at its best when conditions suit. Drop it into the right class of race and things get even more striking: at Class 5 level, Diomed Duke has won 2 of its 5 races, a 40% win rate that puts it firmly among the better horses at that tier. Class 5 sits toward the lower end of the racing ladder, but winning two in five at any level takes real ability, and it tells you this horse knows how to finish the job when the conditions are right.

The two wins came at different tracks — Bath in August 2024 and Lingfield Park in June 2025 — which rules out the idea that this is simply a horse that loves one particular venue. The Lingfield win is the more recent reference point, and it came over a year ago now, which is a long gap. Six races without a win is the kind of run that tests everyone's patience. The current jockey partnership with Marco Ghiani hasn't clicked yet either — zero wins from five rides together — though that's a small enough sample that it doesn't tell the whole story.

Stuart Williams has had a productive season, sending out 67 winners from his Newmarket base, so the operation clearly knows what it's doing. The puzzle with Diomed Duke is simply timing — getting the right race, on dry ground, at the right level, and hoping the form from that Lingfield win is still somewhere in there. At 14% overall, Diomed Duke wins roughly one in every seven races across its career, which is modest but not discouraging. The groundwork is there. It just needs the planets to align.
