The real story is Newmarket. Dereham has won three times from six races at its home track, a striking 50% win rate that stands out like a beacon in an otherwise ordinary record. That kind of dominance at a single course doesn't happen by accident. The horse clearly runs well there, and that's exactly the kind of edge that keeps an older horse in training. The most recent Newmarket win came on 26 June 2025 — 14 months ago — which is a long time between victories, but it shows the horse is capable when conditions and circumstances align.

Dereham also shows a taste for slightly soft ground, winning two of its seven races on those conditions — a 29% win rate that's nearly double its overall average. When the going turns tacky, this horse is noticeably more effective. It competes mostly at Class 5 level, where it has won four of 16 races, a solid 25% record that suggests it is properly weighted at that grade.

The concern is recent form. Dereham hasn't won in its last six races, finishing third, fourth, and third again in the most recent three outings.
