That sounds modest, but Class 4 is competitive mid-tier racing, and placing so consistently in it tells you this is a horse that belongs at that level rather than one that has stumbled into it.

The jockey partnership with Alistair Rawlinson is worth noting. In seven races together, they have won twice — that's nearly 1 in every 3 rides, a figure well above anything else in Daring Legend's record. When those two line up together, something tends to click.

His most recent win came at Newmarket in September 2025, on ground that had softened slightly after rain. Trainer Mick Appleby — who handled him at that point — observed that the cut in the ground had made the difference, and that Daring Legend had run well at the track before. That detail matters: some horses find a course they simply like, and Newmarket appeared to be one of those places for him. On normal ground across his career, he has won 2 from 9 races — roughly 1 in every 4 — which is his best surface record.

Right now, though, the form line reads 14-5-15-15-2-17 in his last six outings, meaning wins have dried up over ten months. He raced just yesterday, so he is clearly still being asked questions. Pattinson's yard has sent out five winners this season, suggesting the operation is ticking along. The challenge for Daring Legend is to find that combination again — the right track, the right ground, possibly Rawlinson in the saddle — that reminds everyone what he looked like on his better days.
