Trained by Mark Pattinson at Epsom, Daring Legend arrived at the yard as a purchase from James Ferguson's stable at the end of his two-year-old season, a big, rangy horse who needed time and patience rather than a packed schedule. That patience eventually paid off — he went on to win three times in a single season, which for a horse operating at this level is a genuinely productive campaign. The yard has sent out five winners so far this season, and Daring Legend has been part of that momentum.
His most recent win came at Newmarket on 20 September 2025, and trainer Mick Appleby was clear about what made the difference that day: a bit of cut in the ground. That detail matters. On normal conditions Daring Legend has won 2 of 9 races — roughly 1 in every 4 — which is a noticeably better ratio than his overall record suggests. When conditions suit him, he is a different proposition.
The partnership with jockey Alistair Rawlinson is also worth noting. In seven races together they have won twice — a win rate of around 1 in 3.5, or 29% — which comfortably outperforms his career average and suggests the combination brings out something extra in him. Most of his racing has come at Class 4 level, winning 2 from 21 races there, a modest 1 in 10, which hints that he can be outgunned in that company despite his best efforts.
The concern right now is that he has not won in his last six races, with recent finishes of 5th, 15th, 15th, 2nd, 17th and 6th telling a story of inconsistency. He raced just one day ago, which means he is currently being asked to keep producing at the end of what looks like a long run. Pattinson has spoken previously about the danger of keeping a horse on the go too long, and that pattern feels relevant here. The talent is real — the question is whether fresher legs and the right ground will bring it back to the surface.
