The most interesting tension around Dandy Dinmont right now is a friendly disagreement between his trainer and his regular jockey, Faye McManoman. Tinkler thinks the horse is best over five furlongs; McManoman, who has partnered him in 34 of his 50 races and knows him better than almost anyone, believes he wants six. It is exactly the kind of small but meaningful detail that shapes whether a horse wins or finishes fifth, and it suggests there may still be an untapped version of this horse if they land on the right combination.

Tinkler has also noted that the handicapper — the official who sets the weights each horse carries to try to level the playing field — may have caught up with him after a good spell. His last win came at Beverley in May 2026, and his recent form of 10-1-7-5-10-5 shows plenty of mid-pack finishes alongside that second place, suggesting he is running respectably without quite getting his nose in front.
