The high point of his career came in the autumn of 2023. He opened his account at Catterick Bridge in August of that year, and Scott immediately spotted something: he had more pace than they first realised, having started him over longer distances before finding his real calling as a sprinter. Just a month later he stepped up to win a Class 2 race at Haydock Park — one of the top tier of races in Britain — with jockey William Pyle reporting he was taken there in style and simply did it easily. That Haydock win tells you what Curious Rover is capable of when everything clicks.

Pyle has become his regular partner, and the numbers back up the relationship. Together they have won 2 of their 8 races — that is 1 in every 4, a considerably better rate than the horse manages overall. Wet or muddy ground also appears to suit him, with 2 wins from just 7 races in those conditions, or roughly 1 in 3.5 — the kind of figure that tends to get experienced punters reaching for their phones when rain is forecast.

His most recent win came at Musselburgh ten months ago, in August 2025, and the last six runs have brought three fourth-place finishes and a drift toward the back of the field. Yet Scott is not losing faith. He ran at York just last week and finished third, beaten by half a length — a result his trainer described as running a blinder. With a couple of races under consideration at Musselburgh, a track he clearly handles well, and the wet weather that tends to arrive in Scotland, Curious Rover's supporters will be watching the forecast with genuine interest. His last win is not as far away as the calendar might suggest.
