She races almost exclusively at Class 6, the entry level of British racing, and has done so in 22 of her 26 outings without a win. To put that in perspective, this is the level where horses are supposed to have the best chance of winning — and yet it hasn't happened yet. Two placed finishes from those 26 races suggest she has been close on occasions, but close doesn't pay out.
Her recent form makes for tough reading: in her last six races she has finished fourth, eighth, ninth, sixth, seventh, and ninth. That fourth place is the bright spot, but the trend since then has been moving in the wrong direction. She raced just yesterday, so the yard are clearly keeping her active and looking for that elusive first win.
Jockey Amie Waugh has partnered her nine times without a winner between them — nearly a third of Curious Mrs Fox's entire career spent with the same rider and still nothing to show for it. Trainer David Thompson, based up in Bolam in County Durham, has sent out nine winners this season from his yard, so the operation clearly knows how to get horses to win. The question is whether Curious Mrs Fox can become one of them.
