In soft or muddy conditions he transforms: two wins from just four races on that surface, a 50% hit rate that puts him in a different league to his overall numbers. He also has a genuine fondness for The Curragh, Ireland's most prestigious flat track. Two wins from six races there might not sound extraordinary, but winning at The Curragh at all requires a horse to be competing and performing at a reasonable level — it isn't a track where passengers go unnoticed. That winning habit hasn't left him yet. His last six runs read 4-9-7-1-5-10: not a horse in searing form, but one who can pop up and win without necessarily looking like a banker beforehand. He raced just yesterday, so clearly there's no shortage of enthusiasm from his team to keep him busy. If rain arrives and Mulligan's in the saddle, Cuban Grey is exactly the kind of horse worth paying attention to.
