What's most interesting about Cuban Grey is the clear pattern in its recent history. The horse raced six times in the last couple of months and showed real promise — a win, then a placed finish, then another win three races later. That last victory came at Dundalk on 26 May, and with a run just yesterday, the yard is clearly keeping Cuban Grey sharp and active. This is a horse being aimed at opportunities rather than being left to gather cobwebs.

There is one striking piece of form worth noting: Cuban Grey absolutely thrives on wet ground. In four races on soft or heavy ground, the horse has won twice — a 50% win rate that is genuinely exceptional and makes you wonder if the trainer and jockey are strategically planning entries around the weather forecast. When Rory Mulligan gets the leg up, things improve noticeably too. The pair have clicked 3 times from 14 races together, a 21% win rate that is substantially better than Cuban Grey's overall average. Patrick J McKenna's yard at Dugannon, Co Tyrone, has been modestly productive this season with 4 winners sent out. For a small operation in rural Northern Ireland, that is solid work.

The one disappointment is Cuban Grey's record in higher-class races. In 14 attempts at that level, the horse has managed just 1 win. It is a realistic assessment that this is a lower-grade performer, but therein lies the point: Cuban Grey seems to have found its level and is winning races accordingly, especially when conditions align and when ridden by someone who understands the horse.
