What works in Crossbar's favour is that it races for Clive Cox, one of Britain's sharpest trainers. Cox's Lambourn yard has already sent out 48 winners this season, so the horse is in capable hands. A trainer of that calibre would not keep running a horse that had genuinely gone off the boil — the third-place finish last time out suggests Crossbar is returning to form, and the recent win at Kempton shows it can still deliver. Whether this marks the start of a winning run or just a blip in a patchy campaign will become clear in the weeks ahead. The horse is active and racing regularly, so the next race or two should tell us whether Crossbar is a genuine prospect or simply a modest performer with two good days to its name.
