That might sound modest, but Epsom is one of the most unusual and demanding tracks in Britain — a switchback of a course that drops sharply downhill and sorts out horses that can't handle the camber from those that can. Crimson Spirit clearly can. Jockey Richard Kingscote described him after his 2023 Epsom win as a horse who "took me down that hill" in a flowing, balanced rhythm — the kind of ride that suggests the track suits him rather than that he survived it. His most recent win came at Epsom as recently as July 2025, so this is a current relationship, not an old one. The other thing that unlocks Crimson Spirit is dry ground: on fast or firm conditions he has won 3 from 4 races — a 75% win rate that is extraordinary and explains a lot about when and where to watch him.

He is trained by Daniel and Claire Kubler at Lambourn — a yard that has sent out 33 winners already this season, which is a productive operation by any measure. Kingscote has ridden him in 9 of his 18 races and the results together are striking: 4 wins from 9, which means nearly half their shared outings have ended in victory. That kind of partnership matters. After a tricky run at Brighton — where Crimson Spirit was unbalanced by the wind and crowded near the line — Kingscote was quick to point out that what you saw wasn't really what the horse can do. The trainer has said much the same thing, describing him as a horse "who should be winning more races" and one with genuine versatility.

He hasn't won in his last 6 races, and his recent form — finishing 3rd, then 11th, then twice 4th — is patchy. But he raced just yesterday, he is being pointed at specific targets, and a horse with a 75% win rate on dry ground in summer will have his moment again. The conditions just need to fall right.
