Three wins from just five races at that track is a remarkable record — for context, most horses win fewer than one in five races at any given course, and Courtland wins three in five there. That is not a coincidence; it is a preference, and smart observers take notice. Both of its first two career wins came at Worcester, and the most significant moment of its career arrived there too — a victory in one of the top races in Britain on 22 August 2023. Winning at that level, against better horses, tells you this is not just a horse that pads its record against soft competition.

The partnership with Sean Bowen is worth highlighting. In ten races together, they have won four times — that is 4 in every 10 rides, or 40%, which is an extraordinary hit rate for a sport where winning 1 in 5 is considered excellent. When these two line up together, something tends to happen.

Courtland also has a clear preference for normal ground conditions, winning 4 of its 11 races on a standard surface — roughly 1 in every 2.75 races in those conditions, which is well above its overall average. Put it on decent ground and it runs to its best.
