Cosmic Soul

The story behind that transformation is worth telling. When Neville first got Cosmic Soul, he thought the horse was ready to go. He wasn't. "He's just taken patience and time," Neville told Racing TV after the horse's first career win at Catterick Bridge in July 2025. "He's matured in his head." That win, when it finally came, felt overdue rather than surprising — Neville had seen the talent in the yard, even if the racecourse hadn't seen it yet. He'd been scratching his head trying to work out why the horse wasn't reproducing his homework on the track. A few small issues were quietly sorted, and suddenly Cosmic Soul clicked.

What has clicked most spectacularly is his record at Sedgefield. He has won all four races he has run there — a perfect four from four. That kind of course record is unusual enough to deserve attention. Most horses find some tracks harder than others; Cosmic Soul at Sedgefield is almost a different animal. His most recent win there came in April, just two months ago, and he raced again only yesterday, so this is a horse very much in the thick of his season. He also does his best work over longer distances of two miles or more, winning five of his 14 races at that trip — a rate of roughly one in three — and he clearly appreciates normal ground conditions, winning four of 11 races on a standard surface.

Over 28 career races, Cosmic Soul has won six times — that's roughly one in every five races across his career, which looks modest until you look at the recent sequence and realise almost all of those wins have come in a concentrated burst. Jockey Jason Hart, who rides him most regularly, has won two of their six races together, a partnership that wins roughly one in three times. Patrick Neville's yard has sent out 28 winners this season alone, so there is clearly a confident, productive operation behind this horse. Cosmic Soul arrived late to the party, but he is making up for lost time.
