The recent form offers a sliver of encouragement, though not much of one. A third-place finish three races ago is the highlight of the last six outings, sandwiched between a string of mid-field efforts. Cosmic Force raced just yesterday, so the yard is clearly keeping this horse busy and believing there is something worth pursuing. Keith Henry Clarke, based in Drumree, Co. Meath, has managed one winner from his yard this season — so when a horse does get its moment, it matters.
Regular jockey Robert Whearty has been aboard for five of those attempts together without getting the horse into the winner's enclosure, and the majority of Cosmic Force's races have come at the lower end of the racing ladder, where you would expect a horse of this profile to be competitive. The fact that it has not converted even at that level is the honest truth of the situation.
There are horses that take time to find their feet, and there are horses that simply find the winner's circle elusive. At 18 races and counting, Cosmic Force needs something to change — whether that is a surface, a distance, or just a day when everything clicks. The team clearly has not given up, and that in itself says something. But for now, this is a horse whose story is still very much unwritten, and not yet in the way anyone involved would have hoped.
