The horse raced just two days ago and came home in second place, which suggests it is still capable of running a big race, but the more recent form before that — a 15th place finish followed by a third and a seventh — tells the story of a young horse whose consistency is still a work in progress. These are the kinds of results you see when a horse is still learning, still working out the demands of racing at speed.
John Butler, who trains Conciliate at his Newmarket yard, has had a strong season with 39 winners so far, which speaks to a trainer in form and with plenty of ammunition. For a two-year-old in a yard like that, there is every reason to think the best is yet to come. Conciliate has shown it can win and shown it can be placed regularly. The next step is joining those things together more consistently.
