Completely Random

The broader picture is less encouraging. Completely Random has won 5 races from 24 starts over its career, a win rate of roughly 1 in every 5 races, and it has not tasted victory in its last six outings. The most recent win came at Lingfield Park on 31 January — eight months ago now — in a Class 1 race, which represents a significant achievement at the highest level. Before that, a Class 2 victory at Leicester in April 2025 showed the horse could compete at the better races. But since those wins, form has drifted: a seventh place just recently, then a fifth, a fourth, and a string of double-digit finishes.

Trevor Whelan is the jockey who has the best handle on this horse. In nine races together, Whelan has steered Completely Random to three wins, a win rate of one in three — substantially better than the horse's overall form. Trainer Harry Charlton, based at Beckhampton in Wiltshire, runs a yard that has already sent out 38 winners this season, so there is plenty of ammunition around the stable. The challenge now is getting Completely Random back to the form that produced a Class 1 win just months ago. With the right ground and the right ride, that is still achievable.
