Four of Coast's six career victories have arrived at Lingfield Park, from just 11 races there. That is a win rate of roughly 1 in 3 at that particular track, compared to 1 in 15 everywhere else. That is a remarkable discrepancy, and it is the kind of thing that makes a horse genuinely fascinating to follow. Something about Lingfield suits Coast in a way that most other venues simply do not — the track layout, the surface, the distances on offer. Whatever the reason, when Coast lines up at Lingfield, it is a different proposition entirely.

The yard behind Coast belongs to Scott Dixon, based in Rolleston, Nottinghamshire. With 33 winners sent out already this season, Dixon clearly knows how to place a horse to best effect — and in Coast's case, the Lingfield connection looks very deliberate. Coast's most regular partner in the saddle is Elisha Whittington, who has ridden the horse in 22 of its races and shared 2 of its wins — a win rate of around 1 in 11 together.

The one note of caution is that Coast's last win at Lingfield came in August 2024, now two years ago, and it has not won in its most recent six races. Finishing positions of 6, 12, 5, 3, 6, and 3 suggest a horse that is still competitive without quite getting back to the winner's enclosure. At Class 6 — the entry-level tier of British racing — Coast has won 6 of 65 races at that level, or roughly 1 in 11, which tells you this is a horse operating at the bread-and-butter end of the sport. There is nothing wrong with that. A horse that wins 1 in 3 at its favourite track and races almost every fortnight at the age of seven is a genuine, hard-working competitor. Coast may not be a star, but it is exactly the sort of horse that keeps racing interesting for everyone watching.
