Ten months on, it remains the only time Club Class has reached the winner's enclosure — though the horse has clearly stayed in form, racing as recently as yesterday and posting a recent run of second, second, fourth, fourth, second, first. There's a rhythm to that sequence. It's not a horse falling away; if anything, the trend is heading in the right direction.

The distance range of a mile and three furlongs to a mile and four furlongs suits it best — that's middle-distance territory, the kind of trip that demands stamina as well as pace. At those trips it has won 1 from 7, a 14% win rate, which is comfortably its strongest part of the record. Compare that to its record at Class 4 level — four races, no wins — and you can see the puzzle James Fanshawe's Newmarket yard is working through. The talent is there in the placings; the win column just hasn't kept pace.
