Her recent form is a mixed picture. A second place in her penultimate run is the highlight of the last six races, and that was sandwiched between some more difficult outings — an eighth, a ninth, and an eleventh place suggesting that consistency is the main problem. She raced just yesterday, so she is clearly kept busy, but busy has not yet meant successful.
Ben Poste has ridden her five times without a win between them, and trainer Ryan Potter, based at Sellack in Herefordshire, has sent out six winners this season — so the yard clearly knows how to get horses over the line, just not this one yet. Citizen Jane has done most of her racing at Class 5, which is the entry-level tier of British racing, and she has drawn a blank in all nine of those races. That is worth pausing on: Class 5 is where horses go when they need easier opportunities, and even there she has not been able to convert. It is not a damning verdict, but it is an honest one.
What keeps things mildly interesting is that second place, proof that she can get close. Whether Potter and the team find a way to turn that into a win — perhaps on a different track, or in different conditions — remains to be seen. For now, Citizen Jane is a horse that keeps trying without quite getting there.
