Chillhi

Since his first win at Newcastle in July 2022, Chillhi has raced 55 times, winning 5 — roughly 1 in every 11 races. On paper, that looks modest. But there are pockets of real ability in there. On wet or muddy ground, he transforms: 2 wins from just 6 races in those conditions works out at 33%, or winning 1 in every 3. That is a completely different horse to the one plodding through dry summer afternoons. Newcastle in particular has been a happy hunting ground — he has won there twice in 13 visits, and there is clearly something about that track that suits him.

His most consistent partner in the saddle has been Ben Robinson, who has ridden him 19 times and won twice together — an 11% win rate, or roughly 1 in every 9 rides. That is a solid working relationship built on familiarity. The yard itself, run by Murphy out of Caerfyrddin in Carmarthenshire, has sent out 2 winners this season and operates at the level where Chillhi fits — Class 5 races, the bread-and-butter tier of British racing, where he has won 2 from 16.

Chillhi last won at Stratford-on-Avon in September 2025, and his recent run of form — seven, pulled up, ninth, third, eleventh, eighth — shows he has not added to that tally in his last six outings. He raced just yesterday, so he is firmly in active training. He is not a horse chasing glory at the top level, but given everything his back put him through, the fact that he keeps showing up and occasionally delivering is, quietly, a decent story.
