What is interesting about Chasing Gold is how close it keeps coming. In its last six outings, the horse has finished third, second, fourth, and first, then third again — the kind of form that suggests real ability lurking beneath an inability to finish the job consistently. That second-place finish and two thirds show a horse that regularly runs into horses just that fraction better on the day, a common story among horses at this level.

Michael Keady's Newmarket yard has been a productive operation this season, and Chasing Gold sits near the bottom of the trainer's pecking order. When paired with regular jockey Daniel Muscutt, the combination has yet to click — no wins from five attempts together. The horse tends to race in Class 6 company, which is a step down from the very top, and has managed nothing but places in ten attempts at that grade. It raced just yesterday and is clearly still being campaigned actively, so there is time yet for Chasing Gold to rediscover the winning feeling it found at Great Yarmouth. For now, it remains a horse that runs well enough to trouble the placings but cannot quite break through the finish line as the leader.
