Both wins have come at tracks that reward consistency rather than brilliance. The bulk of its racing life has been spent in Class 4 company, which sits in the middle of the racing ladder — not the glamour end, but not the bottom either. At that level, Cavalry Call has won just 1 from 14 races, a 7% win rate that suggests it is competitive without being dominant.

Recent form is harder to put a positive spin on. The last six runs have produced a string of seventh and eighth-place finishes, with no win in that stretch. That kind of sequence usually means a horse is either running out of form or finding itself consistently outpaced by the field. Neither is a great sign, but the horse raced as recently as 23 days ago, so it remains active and in the mix.

Jockey Harry Davies has been the most regular partner, riding Cavalry Call in seven of its races and winning once together — a win rate of 14%, which is actually slightly better than the horse's overall record. Trainer R Mike Smith, based in Galston in East Ayrshire, has had a productive season with 25 winners from the yard, suggesting the operation knows what it is doing. Whether Cavalry Call can rediscover the form that brought that Chelmsford win is the interesting question heading into its next race.
