Candonomore

Jennie Candlish trains Candonomore from her yard in Basford, Staffordshire, and she clearly had faith in the horse early on. Speaking before his first win, she described him as "very decent" and noted he had shown real promise across his first few runs without quite getting over the line — the sign of a horse still learning his job rather than one short of ability. That patience paid off when Candonomore broke his duck at Haydock Park in April 2024, and he has since added four more wins to his record. The yard has been in excellent form this season, sending out 64 winners, so Candonomore is part of a genuinely thriving operation.

Most of his career has been spent in Class 4 company — a competitive middle tier where most horses spend the bulk of their working lives — but his record there tells an interesting story. Just 1 win from 13 races at that level, or about 1 in every 13, suggests he has often been asked to compete against horses slightly above his comfort zone. His more recent victories have arguably come when the conditions have suited him a little better.

Jockey David Allan has been his most regular partner, riding him 14 times and winning on 3 of those occasions — a win rate of 21 percent, or roughly 1 in every 5 rides together. That is noticeably better than his overall record, which suggests the partnership genuinely works. His last win came at Bath in April 2026, just three months ago, and his recent form reads 7-8-6-3-1-2 — meaning he has been knocking on the door again after a brief dip in form. With a race just yesterday, Candonomore is clearly still very much in the thick of the season, and on this evidence, another win would not surprise anyone.
