Calafrio

The horse clearly has a preference for fast, dry ground. On those surfaces he has won 2 of his 7 races (that is better than 1 in 4), compared to his overall win rate of just 1 in 9 across all conditions. That is a significant edge, and it tells you exactly when to watch for him: when the track is quick and firm rather than wet or soft. His first career win came at Thirsk back in August 2024, and he has been winning steadily since then, which suggests he has found his level and is genuinely competitive at Class 6 racing.

There is one oddity worth noting. Andrew Mullen, his regular rider, has not managed a win from seven races together, even though the horse has won twice elsewhere in that same period. That disconnect is unusual and worth watching — it may simply be bad luck, or it could hint that Calafrio runs better for a different jockey. Beyond that, trainer George Baker's yard at Epsom has been sending out winners all season, so the stable is clearly in working order. This is a reliable, straightforward handicapper who knows where he belongs and wins just often enough to justify keeping tabs on.
