Caelan

Murphy's Wilmcote operation is one of the busiest and most productive yards in the country right now, having sent out 146 winners this season alone. Getting noticed in a yard firing at that level takes genuine ability, and Caelan has earned his place in the string.

His form figures from the last six races read 2-3-6-2-5-1, and while there is a wide finish buried in the middle, the pattern around it is encouraging — he has been placed four times from those six runs, and his most recent win came at Worcester in September 2025, just seven months ago. His current active status and the fact he raced just yesterday suggests he is fit, in work, and being kept busy. His very first win came at Kempton Park back in August 2023, so he has been finding his way at this level for the better part of two years.

Where Caelan really catches the eye is over longer distances. At two miles or further, he has won 1 from 3 races — that is a win rate of around 1 in 3, or 33%, which is genuinely strong. Compare that to his overall record of 3 wins from 20 races (roughly 1 in 7), and it becomes clear that getting him out over a proper trip brings the best out of him. He is not a horse that wants a sprint for the line — he wants ground to gallop. Most of his career has been spent at Class 4 level, one rung below the top end of the sport, where he has won 2 from 11 races — about 1 in every 5 or 6, which is a respectable return at that grade.

The picture that emerges is of a young, consistent horse who has found his comfort zone and is still learning. The long-distance performances in particular suggest there may be more to come.
