The level Bumpy Evans operates at tells you a lot. The bulk of its racing has come in Class 5 company — the bread-and-butter tier of British racing, a long way from the glamour events — and at that level it has been seriously effective, winning 4 of 7 races, or just over half the time. That is a remarkable hit rate and suggests this is a horse that, when dropped into the right race, is one of the first names you look for on the racecard.

The partnership with jockey Alan Johns is worth noting too. In five races together they have won twice — a 40% win rate, or 2 from every 5 rides — which is excellent by any measure. When those two are paired up, something tends to happen.

Kerry Lee trains the horse from her yard in Byton, Herefordshire, and has had a productive season, sending out 12 winners. Bumpy Evans has been part of that momentum, though its last win came at Warwick back in late September — around six months ago now. That gap is something to keep an eye on, though with the horse having raced just one day ago and clearly still in active training, the yard clearly believes there is more to come. A first career win came at Leicester in March 2025, and the trajectory since then has been quietly impressive. Not a superstar, but exactly the kind of honest, reliable competitor that makes following a horse through a season so enjoyable.
