Put it on wet or muddy ground, or on fast, dry turf, and it reverts to type. The horse also prefers races at 1m3f to 1m4f — distances of roughly a mile and a quarter to a mile and a half — where it has won twice from eleven races. Nothing spectacular, but enough to suggest a pattern worth noting by punters familiar with the horse's quirks.
What is harder to explain is why Brunello Breeze has gone so long without a win. Six consecutive races without a place finish is a dry spell, though recent form offers some encouragement: a fifth-place finish two races ago suggests it is not quite finished. Trained by Liam Bailey at Middleham, the horse runs from a yard that has been productive this season with 17 winners already. Bailey clearly believes there is something left to find. Whether Brunello Breeze can rediscover that Newcastle magic remains to be seen, but if it does return to the track it loves most, on ground that suits it, at the right distance, then a first win in three years is not beyond the realm of possibility.
