Bradman

Over his full career of 26 races, Bradman has won four times and placed on eight other occasions, giving him a win rate of around 15 percent — roughly one win in every seven races. That is a respectable record at his level, though it is worth noting he competes mainly in Class 5 races, which are towards the lower end of the British racing ladder, and has won just one from nine at that grade. Where he really comes alive is over longer trips. At distances between one mile six furlongs and two miles, he has won two from six races — a 33 percent win rate, which means he wins one in every three races run at his best trip. That is a completely different horse to the one who plugs away at shorter distances.

His recent form makes interesting reading. Two wins from his last six races is his best purple patch in some time, and there is a clear trend: the further he goes, the better he gets. The relationship with his most regular jockey, Harry Davies, has not produced a win yet across eight races together, which is one of those statistics that raises an eyebrow without necessarily explaining itself. Kevin Bishop's yard has been quietly productive this season with two winners already, and Bradman is clearly one of their flagbearers. If he turns up at Fontwell again over a staying trip, he is exactly the kind of horse a knowledgeable friend would be quietly tipping you.
