On the breeding side, Boleto is by Wootton Bassett, a sire whose offspring have made a real impact at the highest level in European racing, particularly over shorter distances early in their careers. The mother's side brings in Invincible Spirit, another name synonymous with speed and precocity. Put those two together and you have a youngster built, on paper at least, to be quick and sharp from the off.
The trainer is Clive Cox, who operates out of Lambourn in Berkshire — one of British racing's most famous training villages. Cox's yard has already sent out 47 winners this season alone, which tells you this is not an operation that sends horses out unprepared. When a stable of that productivity decides a two-year-old is ready to make its debut, it is usually worth paying attention. The first run will tell everyone a great deal, and with a pedigree pointing towards natural speed, Boleto's opening appearance will be one to watch.
