That is a horse that competes, even if converting those efforts into wins has proved elusive.

That kind of form suggests a horse that is not quite finding its best at the moment, though a race just yesterday confirms the team are still actively searching for the right opportunity.

Where Bold Style does make the numbers look more interesting is at distances around a mile and a furlong to a mile and two furlongs. At those trips, the record is one win from five races — a 20% win rate, or one in every five, which is meaningfully better than the overall average. In simple terms, this horse appears to have a preferred sweet spot, and the yard who keep pitching it at the right distance could yet be rewarded.

Trainer Andrew Slattery operates out of Thurles in County Tipperary and has had a productive season, sending out 62 winners. That is a yard in form, which matters — horses trained by busy, confident operations tend to show up ready to run. Bold Style may not be the stable star, but with the right trip and a return to something like the Chelmsford version of itself, a second career win is not beyond imagining.
