Bobacious

The mark of a genuine character comes through in how trainer Mark Hoad describes him. Bobacious is, by his own admission, an over-exuberant sort who jumps from the stalls like a sprinter and needs holding together mid-race. The stable bought him for a syndicate simply wanting a horse to enjoy owning, and so far the arrangement is working. His last win came six weeks ago at Epsom — his favourite track — and his recent form has been mixed: a couple of unplaced runs sandwiching some mid-field efforts. Jockey Joshua Bryan, who rides him most often, has won two of his ten races aboard him, a respectable 20 per cent win rate. With dry ground and Epsom Downs back on the agenda, Bobacious remains a horse worth keeping an eye on, the kind of spirited, straightforward performer who does his best work in familiar surroundings.
