Bluey

The recent form tells an even sharper story. Over the last six races, she has finished 1-2-1-2-4-1 — three wins, two seconds, and one blip. That is a horse operating at the very top of its game. Her trainer Emma Lavelle, whose yard in Wiltshire has sent out 45 winners already this season, described her perfectly after a win at Windsor in January 2026 — a Class 2 race, meaning one of the better races in Britain — saying that at three fences out it looked as though she was about to be beaten, but Bluey simply refused to give in, found another gear, and galloped all the way to the line. Tough is the word Lavelle used. It fits.

What makes Bluey particularly interesting is the jump to fence racing. Lavelle had long felt that jumping bigger obstacles would unlock something in her, and she was right. At Kempton, on her first attempt over fences, Bluey jumped so cleanly and so confidently that the trainer came away convinced there was significantly more to come. The handicapper thought so too, adding 7lb to her weight — the racing authority's way of saying a horse has just got considerably better. That is a compliment disguised as a punishment.

Her partnership with jockey Ben Jones adds another layer. In five races together, Jones has ridden her to three wins — a win rate of 60%, or 3 from 5. That is not luck; that is two athletes who understand each other. Her first career win came at Plumpton back in April 2024, and her most recent came at Market Rasen just this week, meaning Bluey is not a horse living off past glories. She is winning right now, at a decent level, in good form, with a trainer who clearly has her spot-on. At seven, with this kind of momentum, she looks like a horse with more chapters still to write.
