Henderson has been frank about what kind of horse Bhaloo is: he thrives on fast, dry ground, and his summer campaigns at tracks like Market Rasen, where he picked up a third place in the Summer Plate, are exactly the right environment for him. The trainer considered sending him to America for the Grand National but decided a couple of weeks' rest was more important. That kind of patient management is a hallmark of a top stable.

His most regular partner in the saddle is Nico de Boinville, one of Henderson's most trusted jockeys, and together they have a strong record — 3 wins from 10 races, meaning they click roughly 1 in every 3 times out. Henderson himself has spoken warmly about that partnership, recalling an early run at Ascot where de Boinville gave Bhaloo what he described as a "wonderful, educational ride," building the horse's confidence through the race before asking the real question. That kind of ride shapes a horse's career. De Boinville has also noted that Bhaloo is at his best on better ground and looks well-suited to his current trip — both useful pointers for anyone following him.

The one honest caveat: Bhaloo has raced four times at Class 1 level — the very best races in Britain — and hasn't won any of them. He is a very good horse who has not quite cracked the top shelf. His last win was 15 months ago, and his recent form shows a mix of placings and quieter runs. He raced just yesterday, so he is clearly in active training and the team have him ticking over. Whether fast ground and a step back down in class can bring the best out of him again is the interesting question hanging over his next appearance.
