Ben Solo

At Chepstow specifically, Ben Solo is a different proposition. He has won 2 of his 7 races there, making it by far his strongest track. His most recent win came on 21 November 2025 over two miles and three and a half furlongs—a distance that clearly suits him. That victory came with a 4lb weight increase, and trainer Rebecca Curtis noted afterwards that despite his youth and greenness in the saddle, he was taking the rise in stride, which suggested room for improvement. His first career win also came at Chepstow on 11 October 2024, so it is his fortress.

The frustration for Curtis is immediate. Just eleven days after that November win, Ben Solo unseated at the same track over the same distance while running well enough to suggest another victory was within reach. He has now gone without a win since, though two top-three finishes in the last six races show he remains competitive. Curtis has bigger plans—she wants to run him in a festival novice chase event next season and believes he will develop into "a proper chaser" once moved over hurdles to fences. That ambition hinges on getting entries and, more pressingly, on rediscovering the winning formula that worked so well on his home track. Ben Jones, his most regular jockey, has ridden him six times and won once (17% win rate together), and Curtis has described Ben Solo as "a big baby" with a genuinely nice attitude—the kind of horse that should only improve with experience and seasoning.
