He has won 3 of his last 6 races, including a win at Ayr as recently as September — and he raced again just yesterday. For a horse his age, that sort of late-career purple patch is unusual. His record on slightly wet or soft ground is the key to understanding him: 5 wins from just 12 races in those conditions works out at winning roughly 1 in every 2.4 races, which is remarkable for any horse at any age. When the ground gets a bit soft, Ayr Poet becomes a very different proposition.

He is also a course specialist in the truest sense. At Hamilton Park he has won 3 times from 12 visits — a 25% win rate at a single track — and at Ayr, where his career began back in August 2022, he knows exactly where the finishing line is.
