The recent form tells a harder story. Avatar Jet's last six runs have all come without a win, the most recent outing just a day ago, finishing eleventh. That is a dry spell stretching back six months to an April victory at Southwell. Most troubling is the downward drift in the results — the last six finishes read 11-7-6-5-5-7, which shows the horse finishing further back in the field as time goes on. There is little momentum here, and the trainer Declan Carroll, based in Malton, will be looking for answers.

What may work in Avatar Jet's favour is consistency of partnership. Jockey Gary Carroll has ridden the horse six times and won once with it, a 17 per cent win rate that beats the overall average. That kind of link can matter, especially if the pair find a race over the ideal distance at a track where the horse has run well before. Avatar Jet's last win came at Southwell, and a return there at a favourable distance might spark something. For now, though, this is a horse in need of a breakthrough after a frustrating stretch on the sidelines.
