Authentic Legacy

The bulk of Authentic Legacy's career has been spent in Class 4 races, which represent a decent, competitive middle tier of British racing — not the glamour events, but far from a pushover either. At that level, the horse has won 1 from 7, a win rate of roughly 1 in 7, but the six places tell you it has been competitive far more often than a single win implies. This is a horse that turns up, runs its race, and finishes in the mix. It just took a while to get its head in front.

That moment came at Newbury on 1 March 2025 — the first and, so far, only win of its career. Newbury is a fair, galloping track that tends to reward horses who stay on honestly rather than flashy types who burst clear early. A win there is nothing to be embarrassed about. The recent form figures of 2-1-5-3-2 (reading from that win backwards) show a horse that was building into form before it struck, and has continued to run respectably since. After a short break of 32 days since its last race, it returns relatively fresh.

Authentic Legacy is trained by Gary and Josh Moore at Lower Beeding in West Sussex — a father-and-son yard that has been quietly excellent this season, sending out 93 winners. That is a serious tally and speaks to a stable operating with real confidence right now. A horse from this yard is never simply making up the numbers — the team clearly knows how to place their horses and find the right opportunities. Whether Authentic Legacy can add a second career win to that Newbury breakthrough is the question worth watching. The pieces are not obviously in place for a sudden transformation, but this is a consistent, honest horse trained by people who have been in fine form — and sometimes that is enough.
