What's genuinely striking is the difference David Allan makes in the saddle. When Allan is not aboard, the horse wins roughly one in every ten races, which tells you that partnership matters enormously here. Tim Easterby's yard at Great Habton in North Yorkshire — which has sent out 128 winners this season — appears to have found the right formula with this pairing.
The horse's recent form is patchy. After a win at Ayr on 20 June 2026, three months have passed with nothing to show: a fourth place, sixth, sixth again, a second, and two races ago a 14th. These are the results of a horse treading water rather than improving. There may be any number of reasons — ground conditions, distance, opposition, injury — but on the bare evidence, Argentine Tango looks like a useful handicap horse trapped at the wrong level, where it shows flashes of ability but rarely pieces together the consistency that would mark out a genuine top-class prospect. The partnership with Allan and the yard's form suggest it will win again soon; whether it will win often enough to justify running in Class 1 races remains to be seen.
