Ardisia

The career arc has been rapid and impressive. A first win at Musselburgh in April 2025 was followed by victories at Goodwood and Ayr over the summer, but the real statement came in October at Redcar, where Ardisia won the Two Year Old Trophy — one of the top races in Britain. That's three different tracks, three different parts of the country, and the horse handled all of them. Trainer Hugo Palmer has noted that Ardisia will try its heart out on any ground and has no obvious weaknesses — rare qualities in a young horse still learning its trade.

What stands out beyond the statistics is the sheer consistency. In its last six races, Ardisia has finished 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 7th — and even that seventh place came in a sequence that includes a Class 1 win. Part-owner Jane Mairs described Ardisia after Redcar as "such a trojan," and that word feels right. Jockey Oisin Orr noted the horse was drawn wide at Redcar and had to work hard early to get a good position, yet still had enough left to win — doing it comfortably enough that Orr felt it was only doing what it needed to in the final stretch.

Palmer, who has sent out 66 winners from his Cheshire yard this season alone, is clearly excited about what comes next. He has flagged a conditions race on Champions Day as the target, where Ardisia could meet the Mill Reef winner — one of the best two-year-olds around — without a penalty for its previous wins. That is a serious test, but based on everything Ardisia has shown so far, the horse arrives at that conversation having earned its place at the table.
