Arctician

The interesting part of Arctician's record is not what it has done recently, but where it does it best. At Lingfield Park, the horse has managed two wins from 13 races, a noticeably stronger win rate than its overall record suggests. That kind of course form — winning roughly 1 in every 6 or 7 visits to a particular track — is worth noting. Some horses simply suit certain places, whether it's the ground, the layout, or something less obvious, and Arctician appears to be one of them. The yard of trainer Simon Dow, based at Epsom, has sent out 14 winners this season, so there is form and competence in the team.

The shadow over Arctician, though, is time. Its last win came at Kempton Park on 3 November 2025, ten months ago now. In that stretch, six consecutive races have brought nothing but placed finishes — a 13th, a 7th, an 8th, two 7ths, and a 4th most recently, just yesterday. For a horse in its eighth year, a ten-month losing run is a difficult spell to reverse. Most of Arctician's wins have come in Class 4 races, the fourth tier of British racing, where it has managed just one victory from 29 attempts. It is not a horse for the big occasions. What matters now is whether Arctician can find another track where it clicks, or whether age and a long drought have finally caught up with it.
