Arctic Dawn

Arctic Dawn's best form has come on fast, dry ground: he wins roughly 1 in every 3 races (2 wins from 6) when conditions are firm, compared to just 17% on the track as a whole. His most recent victory came at Newmarket on 8 August, roughly two months ago, suggesting he has hit a quieter spell since then. In his last six runs he has managed only one win—a fifth-place finish, a fourth, an eighth, a fifth again, and a fourth most recently—the kind of stop-start record that hints at inconsistency rather than outright ability.

Interestingly, his most regular partner in the saddle, jockey Richard Kingscote, has not managed a win from five rides aboard, yet David Egan, who rode him to victory at Ffos Las last June, found a willing partner. Egan noted afterwards that Arctic Dawn was the horse to catch that day and proved a worthy favourite, suggesting the horse has the talent to justify his price when everything aligns. The challenge for Kubler will be finding the right ground, the right race, and the right day to unlock the better version of Arctic Dawn that remains locked away somewhere beneath the surface of his patchy record.
